(I do non-gaming stuff on the PC screen, gaming on the big screen). The videocard will need to support both output connections and also provide HDMI audio so that I get audio sent to my 40' when I switch to it as the main output display. Does performance degrade? Anything I should be aware of with SSDs?ĭual screen - I output to a modest PC flatscreen monitor (VGA/DVI) and also a 40' flatscreen TV (via HDMI). I'm working on the assumption that performance is better so having my OS and swap file sit on an SSD will be a good idea. I'm not versed in solid state drive pros and cons. The usual stuff.įor now, I'm not looking to run at higher resolutions than 1920x1080 - maybe further on.

Web, mail, Office software, hacking the Pentagon. I tend to image/ghost my machines so I can get back to a 'factory default' level of performance reasonably easily. With a budget in the region of £1,500, that'd work out to less than £1 a day. I want something that'll perform capably for at least 5 years. Comprehensive cooling required (very happy to spend more in this area if it's recommended) Largely due to its role as a media server for when I'm not actively gaming. Plenty of storage needed for my Plex content. I'm quite a serious multi-platform gamer and this is the primary reason for investing in a new PC. I'll greatly value any feedback you kind folks care to provide.

I've been out of the loop on components, cooling, optimal configs and so on. It's been around 6 years since I last purchased a desktop PC.
